Language Matters

All texts for this larp are written in English, but names are written in Finnish. Players will speak Finnish during the game. Feel free to use typical words and expressions from the Aku Ankka magazine.

Costumes

The larp has small costume requirements. Symbolic elements are sufficient. Others should somehow recognize your character. But of course it's fun if you make a great costume. 

 

Participants on the larp will not be allowed to use any kind of masks to look like ducks, dogs, mice, etc.

Playstyle

This is not a larp about winning or doing "the smart move". Our rules are unbalanced and unfair.
You will not keep secrets from other players. This is not a competetive larp in any way. This larp is about playing your character's weaknesses and uniqueness. This is a larp where we cooperate, creating the feeling of stories from a comic magazine. Fistights are overplayed in slow motion and with spoken sound effects. Every fistfight end with all fighters passing out.

To win this larp you have to ask yourself "How can I play my character even more over the top ?" Overplaying is not possible in Ankkalinna.

Role Descriptions

This larp tries to recreate the feeling you get from Ankkalinna when you read Aku Ankka magazines.
A character description is about 2-3 pages long (depending on the character). You will get a quite detailed description of your character’s situation, your plans for the day and your relation to other characters. The roles are fully written and have plenty of guidance for what to do in game.

Episodes

The game consists of 3 episodes (like stories in a Aku Ankka magazine). Each episode starts with all characters being situated at a given location or situation. For example, the Ankka family starts each episode with a 10-minute meal at Mummo Ankka's farm.

 

An unknown amount of time passes between each episode and each episode is self-contained. The action is usually reset between each story, such as in Aku magazines. Some stories, however, break the rule and have a "jatkuu ensi numerossa"-ending. Between episodes, there is a half-hour break for the players to eat, talk, and prepare for the next episode.

Scenography

We play indoors. The game area is divided into zones, and each zone represents a place in Ankkalinna (Aku’s house, the juice bar, the police station, etc). The zones will somehow be marked; with for example by tape on the floor. The scenography is quite symbolic, in the same way as the costumes. If you would like to decorate one of the areas so that it looks nicer, then we would greatly appreciate it.​
